2 Corinthians 12:12
I persevered in demonstrating among you the marks of a true apostle, including signs, wonders and miracles.
While many debate whether or not certain gifts still exist, we can all agree that one has ceased. The gift of apostleship concluded with Paul, the last apostle. Since he was not one of the original Twelve, Paul often had to prove himself. Here he reminds the Corinthians that he possessed the confirming signs of a true apostle.
Sign gifts (tongues, healing, miracles and prophecy) were for a specific time and for a specific reason. God can do anything he wants to do anytime he wants to do it, but God used these gifts to confirm the messenger and his message.
It is difficult, if not impossible, to develop an understanding about sign gifts in a 300 word devotion. Therefore, I encourage you to join us online this weekend (biblechapel.org at 10:45 a.m. EST) or check out the sermon from the archives the following week. After you watch the sermon, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this important topic. This is a subject we must understand.
Father, thank you for your Holy Spirit. There is much confusion and division regarding his work. Help us to understand and apply his power every day in every aspect of our lives. Thank you for always bringing unity with your Spirit. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Be sure to attend the church of your choice this weekend! If you cannot attend in person, join us online at www.biblechapel.org at 10:45 a.m. EST on Sunday.
