John the Baptist made his days count. He lived life “plain and simple”–camel hair clothes and a leather belt; roasted locusts (surely, he didn’t eat them raw) and wild honey to eat. But what impresses me most is that John the Baptist was a man who knew his purpose. He was on earth to prepare the world for Jesus, and he never wavered. He lived with a spiritual focus. Isn’t that the kind of life you want to live?
We must teach our children the power of words from their mouths or through their thumbs with Tic Tok, Instagram, texts, or Twitter. And, of course, an important part of teaching is show and tell. We must model what we teach!
Who’s parenting your children? Who’s showing them the way of righteousness and wisdom? Who’s telling them the hard truths about living for God in a fallen world?
Show and tell isn’t just for first graders. In fact, it’s a biblical imperative that will serve you and your children for time and eternity.
God’s Word is to be the controller of our hearts—the control room of our lives. We can’t impart what we don’t possess.
