Psalm 87
Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm. A song.
He has founded his city on the holy mountain. The LORD loves the gates of Zion more than all the other dwellings of Jacob. Glorious things are said of you, city of God: “I will record Rahab and Babylon among those who acknowledge me—Philistia too, and Tyre, along with Cush—and will say, ‘This one was born in Zion. ’” Indeed, of Zion it will be said, “This one and that one were born in her, and the Most High himself will establish her.” The LORD will write in the register of the peoples: “This one was born in Zion.” As they make music they will sing, “All my fountains are in you.”
God chose Israel to represent Him on earth. Through the nation He showed who He was and how He interacts with those He loves; and through the nation God sent His Son. But God didn’t choose Israel based on their land size or population. God’s choosing is always based on His unconditional love (Deuteronomy 7:7-9).
So it is with us today. God did not choose you to be His son or daughter because of anything you did or would do. He did not look down through the tunnel of time to evaluate your future performance. We belong to God based solely on His unconditional love.
Think about that amazing fact. In a world of performance God says, “Grace!” In a world of failure, God says, “Mercy!” In a world of quotas, God says, “Unconditional.” In our temporary existence, God says, “Forever!” In a world that gives only what is earned, God says, “Free!”
Lord, thank You for choosing me to be Your child. I am sinful but You forgive me. I am broken but You heal me. I was lost but You have found me. I am unworthy but You have made me worthy through Jesus. In His name I pray. Amen.
