Psalm 116:1-6
I love the LORD, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live. The cords of death entangled me, the anguish of the grave came over me; I was overcome by distress and sorrow. Then I called on the name of the LORD: “LORD, save me!” The LORD is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion. The LORD protects the unwary; when I was brought low, he saved me.
The psalmist lived in real life. The “cords of death entangled” him. He was overcome with the “anguish of the grave” and overwhelmed with “distress and sorrow.” The psalmist was down to one prayer: “Lord, save me!”
How about you? Can you relate? Are you familiar with distress and sorrow? Do you feel like the entanglement of sin, a bad decision, or a health issue is dragging you down? Are you down to one prayer? “Lord, save me!”
God hears your every cry and He responds. He is gracious—He gives us what we don’t deserve. He is righteous—everything He does is good and just. He is full of compassion—He answers with a heart full of mercy. God will hear you even if you are down to one prayer.
Lord, save me! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
