Psalm 119:107-112
I have suffered much; preserve my life, LORD, according to your word. Accept, LORD, the willing praise of my mouth, and teach me your laws. Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law. The wicked have set a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your precepts. Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart. My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end.
What will you inherit? A large sum of money? A family heirloom? A classic car? An estate? The family business? A new position? Many people live their lives waiting for that day when something of great value is handed down to them.
For the believer there is no need to wait! The psalmist says that God’s Word is our great inheritance that we can enjoy forever. God’s love letter is handed down to show us the way home and have a great time with Him along the way.
God’s Word teaches us the way to go, confronts us when we veer off the path, shows us how to get back on the path, and instructs us how to remain on the way that God has provided for us. With the psalmist we can say, “My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end.”
Thank You, Father, for the rich inheritance of Your Word. Help me keep Your instruction until the last breath of my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
