Psalm 119:145-152
ק Qoph
I call with all my heart; answer me, LORD, and I will obey your decrees. I call out to you; save me and I will keep your statutes. I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word. My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises. Hear my voice in accordance with your love; preserve my life, LORD, according to your laws. Those who devise wicked schemes are near, but they are far from your law. Yet you are near, LORD, and all your commands are true. Long ago I learned from your statutes that you established them to last forever.
There are times in our lives when we cry out to God for help. The people we thought were trustworthy have failed us. The things we put our hope in have faltered. We feel like we are going under. We need God to reach down and save us, to preserve our lives.
In this portion of Psalm 119 the psalmist felt the same way. He rose before the sun to let God know what was on his heart. “Those who devise wicked schemes” were nearby. All day long he sought God. He reflected on God’s promises—and he was not disappointed.
The psalmist discovered two things: God was with him and God’s promises were true. People and things will disappoint us, but God’s word will never let us down. We know with certainty that God has established His Word to last forever. God will not disappoint us today, tomorrow, or throughout eternity.
Father, it feels like I am going under. People oppose me. Circumstances discourage me. I feel alone. Remind me today that You are near. Guide me to the promises of Your Word. Give me confidence in Your eternal truth. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
