Praying for Peace

by | Nov 8, 2018 | Daily Devotion, Psalms | 0 comments

Psalm 122:6-9
A song of ascents.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.” For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, “Peace be within you.” For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your prosperity.

Praying for peace. That is the significant call of Scripture. As believers we can certainly pray for the peace of Jerusalem. You need not agree with the action of Israel’s present day government to believe that God has a special plan for His people.

So, “pray for the peace of Jerusalem,” but don’t stop there…

Pray for peace in the Middle East and for the protection of believers.
Pray for peace around the world and for the spread of the Gospel.
Pray for peace in the hearts of family members far from Jesus.
Pray for peace in the hearts of friends without Christ.
Pray for peace in families divided by stubborn selfishness.
Pray for peace in hearts interrupted by unwillingness to forgive.
Pray for peace in hearts infiltrated by sinful actions.
Pray for peace in homes challenged by different needs and personalities.
Pray for peace in marriages where hurtful actions have left open wounds.
Pray for peace in churches threatened by disunity.
Pray for peace in minds that are pretentious and proud.
Pray for peace in emotions guided by irrational reasoning.
Pray for peace in attitudes of me-against-the-world.

Father, I pray for peace within my heart. I seek Your peace that passes all understanding. I desire a calmness that allows me to live and respond without regret. Father, let the peace You give spread to those in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
