Names of God: Prophet

by | Jun 12, 2024 | Daily Devotion, Names of God | 0 comments

Jesus is described as a prophet, priest, and king. These represent three major offices for the nation of Israel. A king was one who ruled over the people. Jesus holds that position for all who follow him. A priest was one who brought worshipers into God’s presence by virtue of a sacrifice. Jesus brought us into God’s presence by his self-sacrifice. A prophet was one who communicated God’s word.

Act 3:22
Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen to him in whatever he tells you.’

Jesus, the Word, is the One who made the Father known. He is the One who revealed God to us by his teachings and actions. Jesus explained about man’s sin and the need for a Savior. He communicated to us how we can know and love God. He proclaimed what heaven would be like and how we could enter eternity.

Jesus is the Prophet. We are called to read his Word, listen to what he says, and do what he tells us to do. In the Old Testament, those who ignored the message from the prophets lived to regret their decision. So it is with Jesus. Accepting the Word leads to an eternity forever with God.

Lord Jesus,
Thank you for clearly communicating to me who you are and what you came to do. Thank you for making the way so I can have an eternal relationship with you. Thank you for explaining that you alone are the way, the truth, and the life. Thank you for providing the way to God by your death on the cross.
In your name, I pray. Amen.
