How do you respond to the instruction of someone who loves you deeply and wants the best for you? Here are two scenarios. Which scenario best fits you?
Two scenarios:
#1: A father who loves his child and wants the very best for him/her; a father who has gained wisdom through life experience—this father corrects his child. But the child treats the discipline with contempt. The child rejects the loving and wise instruction of the father. That’s foolishness!
#2: A father who loves his child and wants the very best for him/her; a father who has gained wisdom through life experience—this father corrects his child. The child accepts and follows the correction. The child understands that the correction is given from a heart of love and a life of wisdom. That’s prudence!
Let me ask again…. Which scenario best describes you?
Today’s proverb says it like this.
Proverbs 15:5
A fool despises his father’s instruction, but whoever heeds reproof is prudent.
Lord, you are our heavenly Father who loves us with unconditional love and perfect wisdom. May we be prudent, not foolish, when it comes to hearing and heeding your correction.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.
