Refuge: Reasonable and Fair

by | Sep 19, 2024 | Daily Devotion, Refuge | 0 comments

We are most unsettled when we have settled into disobedience. When our will has its back turned on God, chaos reigns within. When we’ve decided that our way is best, anxiety is amped up. On any road trip away from God, fear rides shotgun.

But when our rebellion is surrendered to God, everything changes. Check out today’s passage.

Psalm 19:9
Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair.

God’s instruction is always reasonable and fair. He loves us and desires the best for us. He leads us on a path that makes sense. My rebellion is tainted, and the results are temporary, but reverence for God delivers a purity that lasts forever.

Let me ask a question. Could it be that you are living in fear because you’re not following God? Could it be that peace won’t come because practical obedience isn’t the pattern of your life? Could it be that disobedience is producing the dread in your heart? Maybe it’s time to come home. On the road back, God will drive. You’ll ride shotgun, and personal fear will be packed in the trunk.

Search me, O God, and show me my heart; test me and bring my anxious thoughts to the surface. Reveal my offensive ways and lead me in a path of purity that lasts forever. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
