Psalm 146:3-6
Don’t put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there. When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them. But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God. He made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. He keeps every promise forever.

What gives you confidence? What calms your heart? What makes you feel secure? A thriving economy? A secure job? Your person in the White House? A substantial retirement? A strong military?

Check out today’s passage. Human beings, even the most powerful of them, cannot save. No person can deliver security. Death puts to rest any temptation to trust in man. On the day a person dies, their ability to enact plans dies with them.

Therefore, put your trust in the One who remains faithful forever. He is the Maker of heaven, earth, the sea, and everything in them. Blessed is the person whose help and hope is in the Lord their God.

Father, it is tempting to put our trust in the stuff and people around us. Never let us forget that you are the only One who will stand with us throughout eternity. Thank you for remaining faithful forever. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
