John 12:42-43
Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved human praise more than praise from God.
The religious leaders in today’s passage were paralyzed by the fear factor. They had heard Jesus’ message, seen His power, and placed their faith in Him. They were afraid that acknowledging belief in Jesus would get them expelled from the synagogue. John summed up their dilemma, “for they loved human praise more than the praise from God.”
Some things never change. Many today have trusted in Jesus, but are afraid to openly acknowledge their faith. They fear being ridiculed, getting kicked out of a certain friend group, or experiencing rejection from family members who do not believe. Many followers of Jesus follow at a distance. Like the believing but fearful Jewish leaders, they love the praise and acceptance of people more than the praise of God.
What about you? Do you love human praise more than the praise of God? I challenge you to tell someone today exactly where you stand with Jesus. Toss your fear and share your faith.
Father, allow me to share my faith today. Give me the courage to speak boldly about Jesus. In His name. Amen.
We would love to hear your faith-sharing experience. Tell your story at prayer@ronmoore.org.
