God Humiliated

Matthew 26:65-68

Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?” “He is worthy of death,” they answered. Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him and said, “Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?”

In the court of the high priest, God was humiliated. The Creator was accused of irreverence. The Almighty was accused of blasphemy. The Way, the Truth, and the Life was proclaimed to be a deceiver and liar deserving death.

God was humiliated. Mark reports that the leaders blindfolded Jesus. Some gathered around Him and spit in His face as an ultimate sign of shame.  Others released their anger by striking Him with their fists. Still, others slapped Jesus with their open hands. They mocked Jesus by taunting Him to prophesy who had hit Him.

God was humiliated. With the angels poised at the edge of heaven to charge, the Word remained silent. He prepared to be delivered as the perfect sacrifice for sin. He did it all for us.

Lord Jesus, there are no words to thank You for Your work on the cross that paid the penalty of my sin. Help me thank You with my life. In Your name. Amen.

Write out a prayer of thanksgiving for all that Jesus has done. We would love to share your prayer. E-mail prayer@ronmoore.org.
