Distress Call

Psalm 86:1-7
A prayer of David.

Hear me, LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Guard my life, for I am faithful to you; save your servant who trusts in you. You are my God; have mercy on me, Lord, for I call to you all day long. Bring joy to your servant, Lord, for I put my trust in you. You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you. Hear my prayer, LORD; listen to my cry for mercy. When I am in distress, I call to you, because you answer me.

David was in a tough situation. He described himself as being “poor and needy.” He was in “distress.” He cried out for help “all day long.”  Maybe that’s exactly where you are today.

David’s requests are many and so are his statements of confidence. He asked God to guard his life, to show him mercy, and bring him joy. He prayed that God would listen, hear, and answer his requests. These requests are shared with his personal God who is “good, abounding in love to all who call” to Him. David is confident that his prayer will not go unanswered.

We can have that same confidence. Whatever your situation God hears your prayer. He is good and abounding in love. He is a God who listens to your cries and will act. I don’t know how or when God will respond but I know the answer will be in His perfect time according to His perfect will. That’s confidence!

Father, like David, I cry out to You in my distress. Please save Your servant who trusts in You. You are forgiving. You are good. You abound in love. I put my trust in You. Thank You for always listening, always hearing, and always answering.  In Jesus’ name. Amen.
