Eternal Truth into Tender Hearts

Psalm 127
A song of ascents. Of Solomon

Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for he grants sleep to those he loves. Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.

The Israelites made the journey to Jerusalem at least three times a year to celebrate three annual feasts. As families, young and old, traveled together from the places they lived, these songs of ascent were a reminder of God’s goodness and faithfulness to His children. This psalm expressed the blessing of children and the responsibility of raising them.

Children are a gift from God. What parents teach their children will stay with them always. What they fail to teach can be learned from no one else. Moms and dads can tenderly build into young minds and hearts an understanding of unconditional love, tender care, and a belief system that will provide direction for life.

I know that parents’ lives are filled with exhausting demands and countless distractions. But in the midst of it all don’t miss taking advantage of those God-given teachable moments. God has given parents the responsibility and privilege to implant eternal truth in tender hearts.

Father, remind parents how fast the time goes and help them take advantage of every opportunity to implant Your truth in tender hearts. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
