[expand title=”Devotion Text”]Zechariah 3:3-4
Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes as he stood before the angel. The angel said to those who were standing before him, “Take off his filthy clothes.” Then he said to Joshua, “See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put fine garments on you.”
Zechariah paints quite a picture. Joshua, the high priest, was standing before the angel of the LORD. At Joshua’s right side, Satan stood to accuse him. But God was having none of Satan’s allegations. “The LORD rebuke you, Satan! The LORD, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you!” And Satan was sent on his way.
Joshua now stood only before the angel of the LORD. As he stood next to the angel, Joshua’s clothes, representing the sin in his life, were dirty. The angel gave the instruction to take off the soiled garments. Joshua’s sin was taken away, and he was clothed with clean expensive clothes. What a picture of salvation and restoration! Joshua’s image looks a lot like ours.
Scripture says that Satan stands before God day and night accusing us (Revelation 12:10). And his accusations are on target. Helpless, hopeless, and spiritually bankrupt, we were dressed in the filthy tattered garments of a beggar. Then we met Jesus. He took away the soiled clothing and dressed us in the fine garments of His salvation. Because of Jesus, we stand before God forgiven and restored. And Satan, the accuser, is sent on his way.
Lord Jesus, thank You for removing our dirty garments of sin and clothing us with the rich robe of Your righteousness! Thank You for transforming sinful beggars to those with an eternal inheritance. In Your name. Amen.
