Fresh Start: Secure

I grew up believing that I could lose my relationship with God. I could be a child of God in the morning, sin at lunch, and be kicked out of his family by the afternoon. I walked on spiritual eggshells. Insecurity characterized my spiritual walk. Sometimes, I was certain of heaven; other times, following an act of sin, I was on my way to hell.

Then, studying Scripture in a seminary class, I learned that nothing could separate me from the love of God found in Christ alone. It was like a burden had been lifted from my shoulders. As I contemplated this truth, walking to my car on a hot parking lot in Dallas, Texas, I understood I was a child of God and would forever be. On that day, this passage became reality to me.

Romans 8:38-39
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Salvation, from beginning to end, is of the Lord. When we trust in Christ—when Jesus calls us to himself—we are his forever! Once we are truly saved, we will always be saved! Because Jesus paid all our debt on the cross, we are eternally secure! We can live with complete assurance of our salvation! Nothing can snatch us out of his hand. We will pass from death to life. Our identity in Christ gives us the confidence of our security in him. We are children of God and will forever be!

Father, your love is amazing. Through Jesus, our relationship with you is unbreakable. We have confidence and security. Thank you for our identity that we have in Jesus. In his name. Amen.
