Ever wonder if God truly cares for you, is on your side, has your best interest in mind, and has your back? Check out today’s passage, where God promised to take care of Israel. They did not have to fear. He was coming to their rescue. He would not allow them to be desolate and helpless like a poor widow. Isaiah wrote,
Isaiah 54:5
For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is his name; and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God of the whole earth he is called.
This verse is rich with descriptions of God. He is the Maker of heaven and earth. He is the Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. He is the Lord Almighty or the Lord of hosts—the Lord of armies who goes before Israel to fight the battles. And he is called Elohim Kol Eres—the God of the whole earth.
This name describes God’s sovereignty. Every segment of the planet is under his divine authority. This name expresses God’s power. He is Elohim, the powerful Creator. This name portrays his omnipresence. He is everywhere at the same time in his whole being. We cannot escape his power, presence, or protection. David says it like this:
Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.
-Psalm 139:7-10
Father,
Your power surrounds me. You are always present with me. Wherever I go, you are there to protect me. My confidence is in you, the God of the whole earth. I trust you to guide me and hold me fast.
I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
