The woman was in despair. Her brother had died, and she was reeling from the sharp pains of grief. But Jesus reminded her that while physical death was inevitable, spiritual death was not.
John 11:25-26
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
After speaking these words, Jesus proved that he was indeed the resurrection and the life. He stood in front of the dead man’s tomb and called him from the grave. Lazarus came out still in his grave clothes! This miracle reveals what happens in the death of every believer. Jesus calls those who know him from death to life.
Jesus is the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in him as the only way to God has the assurance of resurrection. The story of Lazarus is not the experience of just one man but the certain future of all who know Jesus as their personal Savior. Those who believe in Jesus will never die!
Heavenly Father,
The unknown path of death brings fear. We see darkness, pain, weakness, separation, and then…then what? Remind me today of your great promise. Burn into my heart the truth that those who know Jesus will live even though the body fails. Thank you for the promise that, like Lazarus, Jesus will call me from death to life.
In his name. Amen.
