Psalm 65:9-13
You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it. You drench its furrows and level its ridges; you soften it with showers and bless its crops. You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance. The grasslands of the wilderness overflow; the hills are clothed with gladness. The meadows are covered with flocks and the valleys are mantled with grain; they shout for joy and sing.
Some commentators believe that David wrote this song to be sung at the Festival of Harvest when a sheaf of the firstfruits from the barley crop was presented to the Lord. It was a time to remember that God always provides.
This song reminds the hearers that God supplies the land with water. He fills the streams in order to provide people with food. He brings the bounty so “your carts overflow with abundance.” The grasslands and hills, the meadows and valleys all shout for joy and sing of God’s goodness.
Maybe you are going through a tough stretch. Maybe it doesn’t seem like God is coming through. Maybe your carts are not overflowing with abundance. God has not forgotten you. He will give you exactly what you need exactly when you need it. He is seldom early but He is never late. He is always on time!
Father, it doesn’t seem like my carts are overflowing with abundance. I am going through a tough stretch and I need Your (name what you need from God). I am trusting in You to provide. I am trusting in Your timing. Give me more faith to keep believing. Give me more patience to keep waiting. Give me a glimmer of hope to keep me focused on the coming harvest. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
