Power in the Psalms: Hiding Place

Today’s psalm gives us three truths we can drive like stakes into the ground to keep us steady. Let’s read the passage and consider each promise.

Psalm 32:7
You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance.

You are my hiding place. When tornadoes with winds reaching over 100 mph hit, people run to a safe place to “hide” or “shelter” from the danger. When storms hit our lives, God is the hiding place we escape to. In him, there is safety and refuge.

You will preserve me from trouble. Trouble is no stranger to those walking on the earth. We live in a sinful world and are daily impacted by its consequences. Difficulties do not take the believer by surprise. Jesus said, “In this world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). In Christ, there is preservation.

You surround me with shouts of deliverance. Here, David paints a powerful word picture of God’s protection. As we stand in the middle of the tempest, God surrounds us on all sides, above and below. He encircles and encases us with reminders that he is with us and will carry us through the storm.

When the fear of uncertainty rears its ugly head, drive it away with these three truths of God’s safety, protection, and deliverance. He is our certainty in uncertain times.

Father, remind me of this verse when the fear of uncertainty begins to settle in my heart. Help me fend off this fear with your safety, protection, and songs of deliverance. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
