Prison Break

Psalm 107:10-16
Some sat in darkness, in utter darkness, prisoners suffering in iron chains, because they rebelled against God’s commands and despised the plans of the Most High. So he subjected them to bitter labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help. Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He brought them out of darkness, the utter darkness, and broke away their chains. Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron.

Israel’s rebellion led them to rough places. They “despised the plans of the Most High” and suffered the consequences of their sin. They were put in chains and taken captive by foreign nations. Then they cried out to God and He saved them.

Maybe you are experiencing a rough place as a result of personal rebellion. You understand the darkness, suffering, and the chains that come from despising the plans of the Most High. Here’s the good news: You don’t have to stay in prison!

Cry out to God. He will reach down and save you from your distress. He can break down the gates and bars that entrap you. He can set you free and refresh your life. He can deliver you from the darkness of prison and put you on a path illuminated by His Word. Today is the day to cry out to the Lord!

Father, I acknowledge my guilt. I despised Your plans and chose my own path—a path that led to a dark prison. I am trapped in sin.  Forgive me for my rebellion. Today I cry out to You to deliver me. Please break down the gates and bars and free me by Your grace and unfailing love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
