Refuge: A Steady Heart

Psalm 55:22
Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.

Give your burdens to the Lord.

Don’t gently carry them over and lay them down. Rear back and heave them like a fisherman throwing a big net into the sea. In fact, do this: write down your cares—your fears, anxiety, dread, doubts, turmoil, or worry—on a sheet of paper. Put it in a bag. Go to your church and lay the bag at the foot of the cross.

He will take care of you.

The Hebrew word translated “care” means “to support.” God is there to keep your feet steady on the treacherous climbs. He will hold you up when you stumble. He contains the fear so it doesn’t get out of control. He always stands by your side.

He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.

Life happens quickly, and circumstances we encounter will show up unexpectedly. Uninvited fear breaks down our doors with one phone call or test result, but when God is with us, he will not let our faith fail. He will keep our hearts steady when the ground around us seems to give way.

Father, I throw my fears, dread, worry, and anxiety onto you. They are way too heavy for me. Please take them, discard them, and fill me with your peace. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
