Refuge: Finding Rest

Matthew 11:28
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

Jesus’ special invitation is for all who are carrying heavy loads. The weight wears a person down mentally, physically, and spiritually. There is only one remedy for body and soul exhaustion—rest. And that’s exactly what Jesus promises.

You have never received an invitation like this! Jesus himself requests your presence. He wants you to come to him. He doesn’t like distance. He has something to give you that you can’t find anywhere else. He is motioning for you. Don’t hesitate. He will give you rest!

This verse reminds me of Hillsong’s “Forever Reign.” The second verse and chorus say this:

You are peace, You are peace / When my fear is crippling / You are true, You are true / Even in my wandering / You are joy, You are joy / You’re the reason that I sing / You are life, You are life, / In You death has lost its sting

Here’s the chorus. Let this be your prayer:

Oh, I’m running to Your arms, I’m running to Your arms. The riches of Your love will always be enough. Nothing compares to Your embrace. Light of the world forever reign.
