Philippians 4:12-13
I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

The apostle Paul understood the range of life experiences. Check out his resume.

  • Received 40 lashes—five times
  • Beaten with rods—three times
  • Shipwrecked—three times
  • Stoned—one time
  • Went without sleep
  • Went without food
  • Went without clothes in the cold

In summary, Paul said, “I have … been put in prison … been whipped… and faced death again and again” (2 Corinthians 11:23). The great apostle understood what it was like to live in great need and to have plenty. Through it all he explained, “I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”

Whatever God calls us to do, he gives us the “can do.” Whatever the situation, we can do what God wants us to do through his strength. Ability does not come from positive thinking. It comes from the power of the Spirit who lives in us. In every situation, God provides his strength.

Father, thank you for providing strength for every assignment. Thank you for the ability to do everything you call us to do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
