Jeremiah 29:11-13
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.”
Whatever your circumstance, I can promise you this: God has not forgotten you and he will not forsake you. Even if it seems like you’re alone, you are not. Even when it seems like God has removed his blessings from you, he has not.
The powerful promise in today’s passage was written to exiles! King Nebuchadnezzar overthrew Jerusalem, ransacked the city, and carried the survivors off to Babylon. Jeremiah wrote these words to people living far away from their homeland and family, feeling helpless. The prophet reminded them that God had not forgotten them.
You may feel exiled from God today, carried off to your “Babylon” of illness, separation, discouragement, grief, or rejection. Remember, God will never leave you. His plans for you involve a hope and a future! When you pray, he will listen. When you seek him, you will find him. When God is our Father, our best days are always ahead.
Father, thank you for this great promise! Remind us today that the plans for your children are always good. Thank you for sending your Son to give us a certain hope and an eternal future. Thank you for listening when we pray. Help us seek you with all our hearts. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
