Since his youth, Joshua had followed the great leader, Moses. Scripture says that no one has ever demonstrated the “mighty power or performed the awesome deeds” that Moses did (Deuteronomy 34:12 NIV). However, Moses was dead. Now, the assignment of leading Israel into the promised land was on Joshua’s shoulders. The weight was heavy!
Maybe you are carrying your own burden today. God has given you a difficult assignment. Illness, grief, loss, fear, and/or anxiety weigh down your heart. It is a load that never leaves. The mission is yours to carry out, and you feel alone, even when surrounded by people. Today’s passage is for you.
Joshua 1:9
This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
God’s instruction is clear: “Be strong!” “Be courageous!” “Don’t be afraid!” “Do not be discouraged!” However, God’s instruction is not without a foundation. In fact, he is the foundation! Wherever you go, whatever you’re going through, whenever you are afraid, he is right there with you. He will never leave nor forsake you. Strength, courage, and freedom from fear are found in him alone. He will give you everything you need to do what he is calling you to do.
Lord, I can’t carry the weight alone. Thank you for the promise of your presence. Thank you for the power of your presence. Right now, I am giving my burden to you. When I take it back, remind me that you want to carry it for me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
