Refuge: God’s Enduring Word

Isaiah 40:8
The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.

Things change!

  • Records became 8-track tapes that became cassettes that became CDs that became iTunes downloads.
  • Computers took up large rooms then small rooms then desktops then laptops. Now they are held in your hand.
  • Phones were in a booth on the corner, then on the wall in your home, then transported in a suitcase-sized carrier, now easily fit in your pocket.
  • Children are born, grow up, go to college, get married, and move to another part of the country without asking your permission.
  • The winter is pushed out by the spring, then comes the summer, which gradually turns to the fall. The grass dries up and the flowers fall off the stems.

Constant change is the only thing that doesn’t change! Well, there is one other thing.

God’s Word never changes. His promises are as certain today as they were when the ink of the inspired Word was still wet on the parchment. We can be sure that God’s Word gives us instruction and promises that will never change or go out of style. That’s why confidence and courage come from reading the Bible. It is an unshakable pillar for the heart.

Father, thank you for your enduring Word. Thank you for your unchanging promises. Help me find courage each day from your love letter to me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
