Isaiah 26:3-4
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.
Satan comes with the “What if?” questions. “What if the surgery is not successful?” “What if the treatment doesn’t work?” “What if the cancer returns?” “What if he leaves?” “What if the counseling doesn’t help?” “What if she never comes back?” “What if my child walks away from God?” Satan knows that questions fill our minds and hearts with chaos.
God comes with the invitation, “Trust me!” Trusting in the “eternal Rock” chases the chaos away. Trust replaces doubt, worry, and questions with a “perfect peace.” Keeping our minds saturated with God quiets the waters even when the storm rages around us.
How do we keep our minds steadfast? Here are three suggestions:
- Read God’s Word. It is his love letter to you. Read through the psalms and highlight his promises. There is calmness under the shelter of his wings.
- Listen to Christian music. Load your phone with songs that remind you of God’s unconditional love. Soak in the words like you would soak in a hot bath. God uses music to soothe the soul.
- Selectively speak with encouragers. Stay away from people who drag you down and turn your thoughts to doubting. Speak to friends who lift you with humor, care, and, most importantly, prayer.
Father, my mind can be easily distracted. One moment, I feel my heart is full of faith; the next, it is overcome by fear. Help me keep my mind focused on you. You alone deliver the peace that passes human understanding. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
