Isaiah 40:14
Has the Lord ever needed anyone’s advice? Does he need instruction about what is good? Did someone teach him what is right or show him the path of justice?
I am sitting here thinking of how totally dependent I am. If a coffee grower somewhere in Guatemala hadn’t done their job, I would have a serious headache right now. If some sardine fisherman slept in, I would have missed lunch. If a certain employee had stayed home, I would not be enjoying a diet vanilla Dr. Pepper from Sonic, and that’s just for starters. From my clothes to my computer to the light in my office . . . I depend on others for my existence.
Not God. Our Creator doesn’t rely on any being, person, or thing for his existence. He is the source of all things. He doesn’t need instruction or counsel. He doesn’t need a consultant or a teacher. He has owned all knowledge since eternity past. He is completely independent.
God’s independence emboldens our trust. God’s work is not slowed due to a shortage of natural resources. He is not waiting on a supplier. The economy does not impact his generosity. He has everything we need in and of himself, and he is not stingy with his blessings. Let him know what you need. He’s got it.
Father, remind us often that you are independent and self-reliant. May that knowledge help us trust you for all we need. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
