Matthew 12:11-12
He said to them, “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out? How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”
After the interaction with the religious leaders about picking grain on the Sabbath, Jesus went to the synagogue and found a man with a withered hand. The religious leaders confronted Jesus again, asking, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”
Jesus reminded the leaders that if any of them had a sheep that fell into a pit on the Sabbath they would lift the animal from the pit. Then Jesus drove home the point: “How much more valuable is a person than a sheep!” Jesus told the man to stretch out his hand, so the man did and his hand “was completely restored, just as sound as the other.”
Jesus again demonstrated that He was Lord of the Sabbath. He loved people more than man-made laws. He was willing to restore what was withered. Is there anything withered in your life? A relationship? Spiritual fervor? Desire to grow as a follower of Jesus? He can restore the things in your life that have waned. Give Him the chance to do His work.
Lord Jesus, please heal the withered parts of my life. Bring freshness and strength to those areas that have become stale and weak. Restore my desire to follow You. In Your name. Amen.
