Singing and Showing Our Praise

Psalm 134
A song of ascents.

Praise the LORD, all you servants of the Lord who minister by night in the house of the LORD. Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the LORD. May the LORD bless you from Zion, he who is the Maker of heaven and earth.

The Old Testament worshipers made their way up to Jerusalem for three annual feasts. As they traveled together they laughed, talked and sang. Their songs of ascents proclaimed love for God, love for one another and pure praise to the Maker of heaven and earth.

The worshipers couldn’t wait to worship. They were ready to sing and show admiration for the living God. They anticipated lifting their hands in the sanctuary to demonstrate with their person that God was worthy of their honor, awe, and appreciation.

What about you? Do you anticipate worship with excitement? Do you prepare yourself before you arrive?  Do you sing and show your admiration for God? God is worthy of all our praise! Sing it and show it!

Father, forgive us for hands-in-our-pockets worship. Forgive us for being so easily sidetracked by our preferences and critiques. Help us praise you from the bottom of our hearts. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
