Luke 19:41-42
As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes.”
God chose the Jewish nation to represent Him. Through Israel, God showed the world His power and grace, His love and forgiveness, His discipline and redemption. It was through this chosen nation that God sent His Son to pay the penalty for the sins of the world.
The gospel writer John wrote that Jesus came to His own but His own did not accept Him. It was His own people who rejected Jesus and ultimately put Him on the cross. In today’s passage, Jesus prepared to enter Jerusalem knowing that He would die. He wept at the thought of His own people rejecting His offer of peace.
Jesus’ passion for people has not waned. Today He stands at the door of your heart offering you eternal peace. His offer is not hidden; it is clear and available to all who will trust in Him. Will you do that today? How about right now?
Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me. Thank You for going to the cross for my sin. Thank You for the offer of peace that only You can give. Right now I trust in You alone as the only one who can calm the chaos in my heart. I trust in Your death as payment for my sins. Today I turn the control of my life over to You. In Your name I pray. Amen.
