Whom Will You Serve?

Joshua 23:6; 24:15

Therefore, be very strong to keep and to do all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, turning aside from it neither to the right hand nor to the left . . . choose this day whom you will serve . . .. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Many years had passed since God told Joshua to cross the Jordan River and lead the Israelites into the land of promise. Joshua, now “old and well advanced in years,” stood before the people to give his farewell address. God renewed the challenge delivered years earlier. With a decision before the people, Joshua made it clear where he stood. “But as for me and my house,” the great leader proclaimed, “we will serve the Lord.”

Today let’s pray for three things:

Unrelenting Strength. We are always one bad decision…one unguarded moment…from a life-altering decision. We must rely on the Holy Spirit’s power. We must stay strong. Pray for God’s moment-by-moment strength.

Unwavering Obedience. God’s Word is the GPS for the journey. Be still…and listen to his voice…and do what He tells you to do. Pray that you will resist temptation and obey God’s instruction in every area of your life.

No Compromise. Stay on God’s path even if you are the only one on the road. Pray that God will help you keep this daily commitment—”For me and my house; we will serve the Lord.”

Father, I plead for unrelenting strength, unwavering obedience, and a life of no compromise. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Father God I need you moment by moment, that I may live a life of no compromise. This I ask in the name of my Lord and Savior. Amen
